Il Vangelo della Domenica
Carattere

FEAST 'OF CORPUS CHRISTI (June 26, 2011)
At that time, Jesus told the crowd:
"I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread will live forever and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. "

Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves: "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?".
Jesus said to them: "Verily, verily I say unto you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food and my blood is drink indeed.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. As the Father who has life sent me, and I live by the Father, so whoever eats me will live for me. This is the bread which came down from heaven, not like what the fathers ate and died. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. " (John 6:51-58)

Comment
In late summer (1263-64?), Peter of Prague, a Bohemian priest, traveling to Rome, he had stopped to celebrate the Eucharist in the Church of St. Christina in Bolsena. During the celebration, after the consecration, they attacked him doubts about the real presence of Jesus in the consecrated bread and wine. The breaking of bread in his eyes is a wonder: the host that distills the blood from his hands.
The fear gave place to panic. In fact, Peter, clutching the body, and purificator hosts, he started to run, leaving traces of blood on the floor. Pope Urban IV was staying in Orvieto, which received the holy relics in his hands. After the necessary investigations, and also behind the revelations of the Belgian Blessed Juliana of Cornillon, instituted the feast of Corpus Christi, entrusting to St. Thomas Aquinas, the task of preparing the texts of the liturgy, while the Holy Relic was rising over the years, the monumental Cathedral of Orvieto. And since then Christians have always celebrated the Solemnity of Corpus Christi with processions and rituals.
The Eucharist is the mystery of faith which results in the mystery of love.
That bread mixed work and sweat of man, together with wine, is Jesus, the Last Supper, the sacrament of his body changed and his blood, a token of his love, who also became a pledge of eternal life.
Jesus, before arriving in the evening of the Last Supper, had repeatedly spoken of his body, and offered his flesh "for the life of the world." It was very explicit in Capernaum (cf. Gv.6 0.51 to 71) offering his body "like real food and real drink his blood as ... And who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life .. ". Not only that, but eating this bread and drink this blood, the graft is complete in Him A graft not only grace but also of eternal life .. "He who eats this bread will live forever."
The Apostle John also brings us the reactions that had the flavor of this language, considered "hard", not only the Pharisees but also some of the disciples who abandoned the Master. But Jesus is not afraid to be alone, he betrays himself and his identity and tells the disciples were: "you also go away? .." And Peter, on behalf of all: "Lord, to whom shall we go ... You alone ouch words of eternal life, and we believe that you are the Son of God "Everything humanly creates wonder and amazement, but must arouse in us feelings that go beyond faith, feelings that make us bow down in worship before Christ present in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. not only that, but it should make us feel almost "deified" after having participated in the banquet of bread and wine, and have eaten Christ! As always, we are distracted, we have our attention elsewhere, and not focus the gaze of the spirit of this great mystery, winning the mediocrity and taking refuge in the adoration of the mystery that makes us feel in heaven with Christ.
